As part of the rebrand and renovation of Manhattan House, we collaborated with Mark Noe and Associates to stage a residence that honors the building’s architectural legacy while introducing a refined, contemporary interior experience.
Manhattan House, designed in 1950 by Gordon Bunshaft of Skidmore, Owings & Merrill, is a landmark of Mid-Century Modern architecture. Its white brick façade, cantilevered balconies, and expansive windows marked a significant shift in residential design, moving away from ornate detailing toward a cleaner, more modern aesthetic. The building’s H-shaped layout was designed to maximize natural light and airflow, and its private garden remains one of the largest in Manhattan, offering a rare sense of openness in the city.
Our staging concept was rooted in this architectural history. We drew inspiration from the building’s minimalist geometry and material palette, layering in warmth and texture to create an interior that feels both timeless and current. Natural materials such as oak, linen, and stone were selected to complement the existing architecture while adding depth and tactility. Custom millwork and shelving referenced mid-century craftsmanship, and the selection of art and objects was curated to evoke a sense of quiet sophistication and enduring relevance.
The final result is a space that reflects the spirit of Manhattan House while embracing the sensibilities of modern living. It is a testament to the building’s legacy and to the collaborative design philosophy we share with Mark Noe and Associates.
