Urban Village is a mixed-income residential development in Washington, D.C. designed to foster connection, dignity, and architectural clarity. In collaboration with Dantes Partners and Moya Design Partners, we are shaping a project that responds to both the urban context and the lived experience of its future residents.
The architectural concept is defined by two distinct buildings joined by a three-story bridge, creating a unified presence across the site while allowing for variation in scale and rhythm. The massing is carefully composed to balance openness and enclosure, with stepped volumes that respond to the surrounding streetscape and frame landscaped courtyards within. The bridge element serves as both a circulation spine and a visual anchor, reinforcing the development’s emphasis on connectivity.
Material selections reflect a commitment to durability and warmth. A mix of concrete and wood framing supports the structure, while the façades incorporate textured masonry, metal panels, and generous glazing to create a dynamic interplay of light and shadow. These architectural details are designed to feel grounded and expressive, contributing to a sense of identity and belonging.
Inside, the residential units are planned with equal care across affordability levels. Layouts prioritize natural light, efficient circulation, and flexible living spaces. Shared amenities and outdoor areas are integrated to support community interaction and everyday comfort.
