At Whittier Phase 2 in Boston, we partnered with POAH to stage a model apartment that draws inspiration from Roxbury’s rich jazz heritage. The design was conceived to feel expressive and lived-in, offering a space that connects with the cultural identity of the neighborhood while remaining approachable and contemporary.
Roxbury has long been a center of musical innovation, and we sought to reflect that legacy through subtle, evocative design choices. A vintage-style record player, brass accents reminiscent of trumpet valves, and artwork that suggests rhythm and movement were all integrated to create a space that feels rooted in history. These elements were not simply decorative but served to tell a story and invite a sense of familiarity.
The interior palette balances warmth and clarity, with layered textures and rich tones that suggest comfort and character. Furnishings were selected to feel authentic and welcoming, encouraging prospective residents to imagine themselves at home. The layout supports everyday living while allowing space for creativity and reflection.
This model apartment is a tribute to the spirit of Roxbury and a reflection of our commitment to designing spaces that are grounded in place, story, and community.
